How to apply?
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan accepts applications from individuals residing in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji requesting an Afghan Police Clearance for the purpose of employment or immigration. The Embassy also provides foreign nationals with a Police Clearance who has been employed in Afghanistan for Immigration purposes.
Police Clearances are issued based on the information provided to the Embassy by the Afghan National Police authorities in Afghanistan and processing times vary.
Applications for Police Clearance can be made in-person or by post. You must fill in the Dari Application form and provide a copy of your Afghan Passport and Tazkira. If you do not have an Afghan Passport or Tazkira, please provide us with Tazkira details of your father, sister, brother, uncle or your cousin.
Note: Background checks cannot be completed based on your foreign passports and identification cards.
Applications for Police Clearance can be made in-person or by post. You must fill in the Application form and provide a copy of your Passport, Visa(s), Employment Contract.
Note: Please provide the passport details on which you were issued the Visa(s) on.
Checklist of requirements
All applicants, whether applying by post or in person, must submit the following items as part of your application:
• Police Clearance Request Form – fully completed and signed
• Copy of your Afghan Passport
• Copy of your Tazkira
• One standard passport photo affixed to the application form
• Proof of address e.g. copy of drivers licence, electricity or gas bill
Ensure the documents are scanned and are in good readable quality, photographs are not accepted.
Processing fee and Payment Method
Applications will be processed in order of their receipt by the Consular Section. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing the necessary documentation will not be processed.
The Police Clearance processing fee is $25AUD which is payable to “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan “via Money order or Draft Bank Cheque if you live outside of Australia. It is to be paid in-person or via mail only once the Police Clearance approval has been received by the Embassy. However, the Embassy does not accept Cash, Personal Cheque or Bank Transfers as form of payment for any type of documents.
Postage and Handling
The Embassy is not liable for any documents which are damaged or lost in transit, it is recommended that you send your mail via ‘registered post’. If you live in Australia, please include an extra envelope for the return of your documents, however if you live outside of Australia, please organise a courier for the collection of your documents.

Our opening hours is 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday to Friday. The Embassy is closed on Saturdays and Sundays and Australian Public Holidays as well as on Afghan National Holidays
